New Library Construction Update

Brickwork is almost done and windows are being installed in the new main library.  We anticipate opening in late January/early February.  Much needs to be done between now and then, including painting walls, and installing millwork, plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, carpeting, tile, and shelving.  In order to install our computers and move the books from the current library, we will need to close for a few weeks, but we hope to keep this time to a minimum.  I cannot give you an exact date yet, but you are invited be a part of our “Book Brigade,” passing books hand to hand from the old building to the new one.  Stay tuned for the date, because when the final book has been moved, we will open our new doors for service.

Plans are actively underway for the Sumpter Branch, located on the east side of Sumpter Rd. near Dunn Rd (across the street from the Sumpter Township Hall).  Sumpter’s construction manager will have contractors on site beginning in September, and we plan to have the branch media center open in November.  Services at the branch will include:  Computers with internet and Microsoft Office, wireless access, printing, scanning, and faxing as well as the ability to return books and pick up holds.  I look forward to the ribbon cutting ceremony!
