- Personal cards
- Resident cards: Teachers who live in our service area should obtain our resident card for personal use. Identification is required. The card is valid for three years and is honored at most Library Network libraries.
- Non-resident cards: Teachers residing outside of our community but in the TLN service area should obtain personal library cards from their home library. The Fischer Library honors most TLN resident cards.
- Business cards: Teachers residing outside the TLN service area should obtain a personal non-resident business card which allows full service at our library only. Other TLN libraries do not honor this card. Verification is required and the card is valid for one year.
- Teacher cards - In addition to a personal library card, an educator who lives or works in our service area may also obtain a teacher card for professional use. Verification of employment is required, and the card is valid for one year. By presenting a teacher card, materials may be borrowed for classroom use with the following privileges:
- The loan period will be extended to four weeks.
- Overdue charges, damage, and replacement fees will be waived so long as a reasonable attempt has been made to return items on time and in good condition.
- The maximum number of items per card will be 35 or 1/student, whichever is greater.
- Class visits to the Fischer Library - The library encourages class visits with the following guidelines:
- Each teacher must call the library (699-3291) in advance to schedule a field trip. Please do not rely on others to make arrangements.
- The teacher and the librarian will work together to determine activities and materials to be presented.
- Only one class at a time can be accommodated at the library. Classes are scheduled on a first come, first served basis depending on library staff availability. Teachers should have an alternative date in mind when they call.
- Students are encouraged to get library cards before their class visit and must bring them on the day of the visit if they wish to check out books. Parents or guardians must sign for children under 18 and must verify their address. Cards will not be issued during the class visit.
- A teacher may allow students to sign out items on his/her teacher card for classroom use (SEE: Library Cards for Teachers). All cards should be obtained in advance of the class visit.
- Library materials as support for school curriculum
- Teachers are encouraged to call the library before giving major assignments in order to insure that appropriate materials are available for all students.
- The library will honor teacher requests to hold items for up to four weeks on special reserve for in-library use. Items may also be be borrowed through interlibrary loan for this purpose. Requests should be made at least three weeks in advance to allow for the return of items in circulation at the time of the request.
- Please inform students that items placed on reserve cannot be checked out of the library but that copies can be made for a small fee--$.10/page for black and white, $.75/page for color.
- Classroom use of Fischer Library Materials
- The library staff will be pleased to assist teachers in the selection of materials at the library. Responsibility for curriculum and instruction, however, rests with the teacher.
- Because the library does not have public performance rights, videotapes in our collection are not available for classroom use.
