Public viewing of the City of Belleville Centennial Quilt 2005 will take place on Saturday, January 23, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Fischer Library, 167 Fourth Street. The quilt has been framed and hung permanently in the program room of the library.   

Docents will be on hand to give the history of Belleville as depicted in the quilt.  There are ten blocks, each depicting a decade from 1900 to 2000.   In the center of the blocks are Belleville Lake, an embroidered map and city landmark inserts.   The old north bridge is appliquéd at the top and the new Belleville Bridge is sewn on the bottom. 

To celebrate the permanent placement of the quilt, The Friends of the Library will hold their 2010 Annual Membership Meeting, “Sew Many Books, Sew Little Time:  A Celebration of the Centennial Quilt” at 7:00 p.m.  The meeting is open to the public and free of charge.  Refreshments will be served.  RSVP’s are preferred, 734-699-3291.

Annual reports from Deb Green, library director, and Mary Jane Dawson, Friends of the Library president, will begin the program.  Officers for 2010 will be elected.  The nominations are:  Mary Jane Dawson, president; Amalia Chedraue, vice president; Peggy Mapes, secretary and Wanda Ritchey, treasurer.

The Celebration of the Centennial Quilt Program will highlight the quilt artists, who participated in the project.  Marilyn Locke, one of the organizers of the Centennial Quilt, will recognize all the quilters and those responsible for hanging the quilt.  The Belleville Area Council for the Arts will be acknowledged for their sponsorship of the Centennial Quilt Project.

Note: There is an ongoing selection of used books available for sale in the entrance of the library. Members of the Friends of the Library also have continuous access to the books in the program room. To become a member, print out the application, fill it out, and mail it to the address in the application or drop it off at the library with your check.
