Space Needs Assessment
In 2005 the Tri-Community Library Committee, with help from the community, staff, and consultants, drafted a long range plan in order to identify current and future needs for the collection, the public, and the library's service program. Part of the plan included a space needs assessment:
In the Summer of 2011, the space needs assessment was updated to reflect new data from the 2010 Census and SEMCOG Forecasts. The updated assessment also reflects the increased demand the library has seen for public meeting spaces. In February 2012 library architect Dan Whisler drafted a summary of the space needs update:
Library Design Workshop I
On April 30, 2011, the library held a community forum on the library's future space, facilities, and service needs. Library architects Dan Whisler and Seth Penchansky presented a slideshow of various library buildings and features. They led the group in a brainstorming session on future services and how those services relate to library design.
Library Design Workshop II
On July 14, 2011, the library held a site selection workshop. The architects lead a discussion of potential sites the library identified, sought input on other possible sites, and reviewed important criteria for library site selection. Attendees ranked and scored three potential sites for the library's main building.
